 Laparoscopic spey surgery

We understand the importance of utilising advancements in the veterinary medicine field, which is why we specialise in Laparoscopic spey surgery.

Dr Jason Rapke has performed hundreds of Laparoscopic Spey desexing procedures and is one of Victoria’s most experienced surgeons in this field. The Lap Spey is performed using laparoscopic equipment, which drastically reduces the size of the incision needed for a spey procedure. This results in much less post-operative pain, faster recovery and less wound complications.

You can rely on us as your experts in pet care.

🐾 Today’s Surgery Spotlight: JPS Surgery 🐾

Today we had a gorgeous puppy in for ...JPS (Juvenile Pubic Symphysiodesis) surgery 💙

What is JPS?
JPS is a preventative orthopaedic surgery performed in young puppies to help reduce the severity of hip dysplasia later in life.

Why does hip dysplasia happen?
Hip dysplasia occurs when the hip joint doesn’t develop correctly as a puppy grows. This can be influenced by genetics, growth rate, body weight, and joint laxity, and over time it can lead to pain, arthritis, and reduced mobility.

Why do we do JPS?
JPS works by gently altering the way the pelvis grows. By closing a growth plate early, it allows the hip sockets to rotate and better cover the femoral heads as the puppy continues to grow.
👉 This can significantly improve hip stability and reduce the risk of painful arthritis later in life.

The best part?
✔️ It’s minimally invasive
✔️ Puppies usually recover quickly
✔️ It can make a huge difference to long-term comfort and quality of life

Early detection and early intervention are key 🐶✨

Maples procedure went wonderfully and it wasn’t long before she was back in the office getting cuddles from the nurses. 💗

Christmas countdown is on!
Will your pet make Santa’s naughty or nice list this year? 🎄 ...🎅 🐾

🎄 Tis the season… for pets getting into trouble! 🐶🐱

With Christmas upon us, we ...see a spike in animals eating all the things they definitely shouldn’t. The usual culprits:

• 🍇 Grapes & sultanas (tiny, deadly little raisins!)
• 🍖 Cooked bones
• 🍷 Alcohol
• 🥓 Fatty meats like sausages & pork
• 🍫 Chocolate
• 🎁 Ribbons, wrapping paper & toys

Pet-proof your Christmas:
• No edible gifts under the tree — yes, they will try to unwrap them.
• Keep toxic foods far, far away.
• Supervise when they’re near anything shiny, tasty, or squeaky.

Remember, a quick call to your vet can save your furry friend from a Christmas catastrophe! 🎅🐾
